Misrikh is a tehsil of Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh, set in the flat, fertile plain of the Gomti river northwest of Lucknow. Agriculture dominates: sugarcane, wheat and paddy rotate with the seasons, and village life is organised around gram panchayats, weekly markets and the tehsil town. Sitapur town and Lucknow provide rail and road connections to the rest of the state.
The area's draw for outsiders is Neemsar — Naimisharanya — one of Hinduism's longstanding pilgrimage centres, where tradition holds that the Puranas were first recited to assembled sages. Pilgrims come for the Chakra Tirtha bathing ghat and a ring of temples; the busiest periods align with major festival dates and the cooler months from October to March. Visitors should expect small-town facilities locally and fuller services in Sitapur and Lucknow.
